Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!!! This is a Christmas we will never
forget. We are truly blessed to have received the
gift of life. David's birthday is September 6, 1958
but his rebirth day is December 19, 2004. We are
also so blessed to have such wonderful people
surrounding us. Thank you for standing by our side
during all of this.

David's spirits were high today. Very emotional but
delighted none the less. He told me it was a great
day. I think he will be saying that for the rest of
his life!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and
healthy New Year!
Lots of Love,

Dear David and Nancy,

Merry Christmas!

I haven't written much on this blog because I've been talking to Nancy several times a day on the phone and seeing David at the hospital. Nancy and I will going to the hospital to spend Christmas Day with David while our children are off in various places.

Brendan's gone to my friend's, Maryann and John's, in New Hampshire and I will join him in a few days. He flew up on Thursday morning. Matt and I had a nice Christmas Eve. I decorated the tree (not a moment too soon!) while he watched a James Bond marathon. We had a nice traditional turkey dinner and he unwrapped a few things at midnight.

Matt will spend today at his dad's while Nancy and I are in the city. We will drive up to NH with Tracker (the dog) in a few days.

There's a few things that I want to say in public this Christmas as they pop into my mind and in no particular order.

This IS the happiest Christmas ever.

David, I am blown away by your strength and humor throughout all of this. This no doubt contributed to your otherwise good health (except for that liver thing)and part of why the doctors kept telling you that you had no right to feel as well as you did. It's sure nice to see these traits in my little brother; they were always there and just amplified by your rising to the occasion.

I am looking forward to spending Christmas Day with you later today. I'm anxious to see how much you've improved since last Sunday immediately after the surgery.

David, you are so lucky to have Nancy. Although I'd rather have picked another reason to spend so much time with Nancy, I feel really fortunate to have gotten to know her so well as we've spent agonizing, traumatic hours together. Nancy, you are an awesome and strong woman who's handled this whole thing with grace and optimism. I'm so glad to have you -- and your family -- as part of the Bird family.

It's no surprise that the doctors would say what a pleasure it was to deal with you and David. Amen to that!

I am elated. It's not everyone who says "all I want for Christmas is a liver." David, you got yours. As I ran into people I know at the grocery store or out doing errands this week, I felt myself on cloud 9 recounting the condensed version story. My eyes repeatedly welled with joyful tears. And so did there's.

Through this ordeal, I am grateful to have gotten to know your friends better. You are very, very fortunate and you deserve the wide support network you have. You are surrounded by love.

(Hi, Frank and Linda!) (Hi, Anita!)

My love to everyone.

Nancy, I just had to second the motion on the previous two comments in terms of the qualities Kathy and Char recognized in both you and David. You both have been truly amazing during all of this, and I have only been involved on the fringes so to speak - obviously, Kathy has been in the thick of it and has really seen your true spirit, courage, faith, humor, perseverance etc.

Hope you had a good visit with David today. ACL
